PRUNING COMPETITION 21st August 1906
Pruning competition on one of Thomas Petty’s orchards – thought to be in Tram Rd. (a similar event is recorded in 1905) Pruning competitions appealed to orchard workers who needed speed to get through this arduous task on a large holding. Each contestant pruned six trees. Tom Petty used to say, “When pruning there should be one stick in the secateurs with two still in the air”. Photo credit – Norbury Family History.
