Tarwin River wetlands at Koonwarra.

The “Apple tree” wetlands at the second railway bridge across the west branch of the Tarwin River a couple of Kilometres from Koonwarra, there is a heavy-duty seat made from an old railway sleeper that before the new highway construction I would sit and ponder at the river flat and farm buildings on the skyline of a steep hill.

The view today is divided by the new highway bridge spanning the river flat. Although the area is under the control of the Nerrena Tarwin Landcare Group, it appears messier now than before, as their policy is to provide natural habitat.

This railway reserve area in the past had been leased and kept tidy by cattle grazing. Since the new highway, I have yet to experience the number of birds I have previously witnessed.
